SUCCESSFUL ENCAMPMENTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. Up to date according to the list supplied by the Defence Department training camps have been held at the following places, with the approximate bers attending:—Oringi 400, Wairongda, near Dunedin, 420, Annandale, Piako 400, Whangarei 470, Mandeville, near Gore,. 200, Wellington 400, Kakariki, Greatford 600, Lyttelton 220, Hamilton 400, Marakeke, near Takapau, 1000, Papatoetoe, near Auckland, 850, Hamilton, Waikato Regiment, 000; total 5900. The following are now being held: Auckland 300, Orari 350, Coalgate 150, Nelson 100, Westport 150. Merton (Otago) 100, Gore 500; total 1050.
Twenty-five more camps have yet' to be held during April and May. COMPULSORY DEFENCE. CONDEMNED BY LABORERS' UNION. Christchurch, Last Night. At an open meeting of the Gener.t: Laborers' Union held to-nighi, at which the compulsory military training system was discussed, the following motion was agreed to: "That in the opinion of this meeting of general laborers the organised workers of this country are now called upon to take immediate action if the military powers decide to have any more of our children gaoled under the compulsory military training scheme, and in our opinion labor should take a lew weeks' holiday together and stop the wheels of industry until the Act is repealed." It was also decided that this meeting of general laborers forward a cable message congratulating Tom Mann and comrades who have been sent to gaol for their principles, and that the message be sent through Mr. Keir Hardie, M.P.
