THE NEW PREMIER
At a meeting of Manaia Liberals on Monday evening, the following resolutions were carried: — That this meeting of Liberal supporters of Manaia and district wish to convey to Sir Joseph Ward, on his voluntary retirement from the Premiership of this Dominion: (1) Their admiration of his administrative ability as a humanitarian legislator; (2) the gratification they feel at the high position he has attained as a financial expert, not alone in the colonies, but also in England, the home of finance (3) the reproductive and economical manner in which he has utilised the many loans successfully floated for the good of this Dominion and its people during his regime; (4) the pleasure it gives them to offer their congratulations on the sound position of this Dominion financially and commereially, notwithstanding the pessimistic detractions of the large landholder element; (5) their regret that such deplorable methods of criticism as "bribery," "calumny," and sectarianism" are |in vogue in thisi country; (6) the future hope that when his mission is ended he will again take a prominent part in the destinies of the Dominion.
