William Ramsay, of the Smoke Abate ment Society, says that it is possible to sink a shaft on coal-bearing strata and admit the oxygen required to burn the coal, and to draw off the gas necessary far producing electric power at the pit head. 'lt is believed that it is possible to manufacture sixteen units of electricity for a penny, and also to transmit it two hundred miles.
