SHOW DAY AT AMBURY'S

"THE FAIR OP FASHIONS." The display of autumn and winter ap- 3 parel at Ambury's to-day at 9 a.m. may ■ well be named "The Fair of Fashions." The firm's head milliner (Miss Harrison) U who recently visited the Home and Con- " tinental markets, secured a magnificent ■ range of models, and having visited "the i Festival of Empire" gained new ideas, 1 which enables the firm to place on exlmbtion a collection of millinery (each 1 article exlusive) second to none in New Zealand. Our reporter noticed among I the hundreds of dainty hats and toques, < som e very smart novelties, the new" Sapho" covered velvet, with wings and cabachou, "Gendarme," covered in blaefc'3 velvet, turned up with new blue an* piped black and white; the new "Amazon," in satin and marabout feathers; the "Watteau," with rich silk girdle and wmg; the "Toreador," in black and white chip and white wings, the "Cowboy," in grey tagel and black lancers feathers? the ever popular "Pierrot," in white satin crown and black velvet brim, with stylish aigrette; the spreading "Duches's" m rich black tagel, with handsome lancers plumes in black and white represent some of the leading shapes, while the popular colors are black and white, grey, saxe, mole, brown, navy, emerald, cerise and purple. The whole department comprises a lovely range for selection. The costumes and coats are very neat in style, the former inclining to the •shorter or live-eighth coat, with neat braid trimmings. The Reversible motor . coat is a feature this season, and is warm ■, and comfortable, though light in weight, x Burbury and Hydrotite rain coats with '>■■ the "Raglan" sleeve are to be very popular, and a fine range is showing. The stylish little one-piece dresses with Maygar sleeve are very smart, navv coating serge trimmed with black braid being the favorite, or embroidered golf jackets and jerseys are again to the front in cream and various colors, together with useful blouses, American skirts, dress skirts, and a splendid range of silk, satin and moirettc underskirts for street and evening wear. Beautiful tints in opera coats, handsome sequin overdresses are most charming for evening wear. Good ranges of dress materials with various trimmings to match, very dainty fur sots m all the newest styles, Dent's gloves and fancy hosiery make up a very fin<r collection, which no doubt will attract very large crowds of the fair sex to this ever popular function in the centre of the town. Doors open at 0 a.m.
