for such a business as to their bona fides. The multiplication of land agents, of course, increase! the craft of the most unscrupulous members of the profession, and aids every conspiracy to make the public pay hugely for the luxury of the parasitical members of the trade. Disclosures in Court will perhaps awaken people to the extent of a system which obtains everywhere in New Zealand, but particularly in Taranaki, whereby a certain class of men deliberately conspire against persons who liave land to sell or who desire to buy land. Because the higher the price, the higher the commission, due mainly to the pernicious exchange system in vogue, innumerable acres of Taranaki land do not really pay to farm, and the real progress of the province is held back. We sincerely hope, in the interests of the people, that the whole business of land agency will be thoroughly threshed out in Parliament.
