LOAN & MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Stratford branch), report as follows: On Friday, Bth inst., we held our second .sheep fair this season at our Stratford yards, when there was a fair yarding of 5900 sheep, of which about 3200 were sold. Prices were up to the usual average, and under fair competition the following prices were realised:—Twotooth ewes from 9s 4d to lis Id, 4-tooth ewes 13s Id, «-tooth ewes 10s lOd to 10s lid, f.m. ewes Os to 7s 9d (for a nice line of guaranteed ages), 2-tooth wethers 10b to lis lid, 4 and 5-year ewe culls 3s d2 to 3s 6d, fat ewes up to 10s, cull lambs 3s 2d to 9s 7d; rams, 2-tooth Romneys from 2% to 3',4 guineas, 2-tooth Lincolns V/ 4 to 2 guineas. On Tuesday, 12th inst., we held our usual combined cattle sale, when there was a small yarding of 698 cattle and 344 sheep. There was fair competition and about 300 cattle were sold, besit; all the sheep Weaners, small and . poor quality, made lis 6d, good-colon■.: Shorthorn weaners 21s to 28s; anything showing Holstein and Jersey cross in weaners made up to 34s Gd; store cows, small and backward condition, 27a Od to 70s, forward cows 82s to 88s, fat cows 90s to 105s, 2-year heifers 75a.t0 765, and a nice line of 18-months Holsteins, on account of Mr.-T.^..lreland, made 86s; springing heifers, good Quality 100s to 122s 6d, dairy cows 90s" to:H«s. WEBSTER BROS.' REPORT. Poultry.—At the mart ,on Saturday our pens were taxed to their utmost with birds of all classes. .Prices were about the same as the previous week's list. Forward pullets an'a "good young cockerels are still keenly sought after. Hens (old) Is 3d to Is lOd, (young) 2s to 2s Ifld, pullets (young) li *lod to 2s 6d, forward ,3s to 4s 3d, cockerels (young) 9d to Is 3d, fat Is lOd to 2s sd, ducklings 5d to 10d, ducks. Js, fid to 2s Id, drakes H 9d to 2s, geese '2s 7d to 2s 9d, p.b. black Leghorn cockerel 10s. The usual line of auction sundries realised satisfactory rates. Furniture.—On Wednesday, on account of Mrs.'Harry Goldwater, in the Brougham St. Hall, we held a clearing sale of all her house furniture and effects. There was a large attendance of the public, and the furniture, being of good quality, realised satisfactory prices. Fruit.—During the week we have again handled large quantities of Auckland, Nelson and" Hawke's Bay fruits. Prices as under (according to quality of fruit and size of boxes): Bananas (ripe) 2d to 2>/ 4 d per lb, oranges (re-packs) 12s 6d to 13s 6d, peaches (dessert) 3s 6d to 4a 6d, bottling 2s to 3s, tomatoes (Nelson) 3s 9d to 6s, cape gooseberries 5s 6d to 6s, pears (dessert) 4s to fis, cookers 3s 6d to 3s 9d, apples (dessert) 6s to 7s od, cookers 3s to 4s, grapes fid to 10d. peanuts 2%d per lb.
L. A. NOLAN & CO.'S REPORT. Poultry.—Our pens were well filled on Saturday. There was a fair demand, prices being on a par with previous week. Several lines of good pullets realised high prices. We quote: Hens, ordinary, Is to Is 9d, pullets to 3s 6d, cockerels 6d to 2s (according to size), roosters Is to Is 9d, ducks Is 3d to Is' Bd. A large quantity of furniture was disposed of in the mart at satisfactory prices. Fruit.—Large consignments still continue to arrive daily, peaches, pears and apples being the chief lines offering. Prices during the week were as follows: Apples (dessert, half-cases) 2s to 3s, cookers Is to 2s, pears (dessert) 3s to 3s 9d, cookers 2s 6d to 3s, peaches (firsts) 3s to 4s, seconds 2s 9d to 3s, third 2s 6d to 2s 9d, tomatoes (Nelson', best)' os, Hawke's Bay 4s Od, watermelons iy 4 d to li/ 2 d per lb, rock melons lOd each, quinces 2s 6d half-case.
