MINING DISASTERS.
GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. By o»W»—Press Association—Copyright. New York, March 20. An underground gas explosion wrecked twenty dwellings in Dunmore mining district. Two families were blown to pieces or burned to death, and several houses were completely destroyed by fire. Seven women and two children are known to be dead. Earth settling within the mines is believed to have caused the explosion. Reports from Fort Smith (Arkansas) state that a telephone message has been received there that a great disaster has occurred at the San Bois Coal Company's mine at McCurtain (Oklahoma). A gas explosion occurred, entombing eighty men, all of whom are believed to be dead. HOPE OF RESCUE ABANDONED. ■Received March 2z, 12.5, a.m. New York, March 21. Hope ;has been abandoned of the rescue of the imprisoned miners at McCurtain (Oklahoma). Latest returns show that 78 are entombed.
