The Te Anau completed the discharge yesterday of her 400 tons- of general cargo and sailed for the West Coast. THE ROSAMOND. The Rosamond is due here to-Jnorrow from Wellington, Picton and Nelson. She has but a small cargo for this port. . NEW TYSER LINER. •' Messrs Workman, Clark and Co.. Ltd., Belfast, have launched from their yards the twin-screw steamer Makarini for the Tyser Line, Ltd. The vessel is 486 ft in , length, with a gross tonnage of over 10,500, js the shelter-deck type, and has been built under special survey for the .highest class in Lloyds' Register. The cargo space is divided into five holds, three being insulated for frozen meat •cargoes. "Refrigerated machinery on the carbonic acid gas system has been arranged. ' Each of the holds is furnished with a hatchway equipped with steam "winches, derricks and other gear. Accommodation for a'boiit 750 steerage passengers- is- provided in rooms on the upper 'tween decks. A smoking-room and lounge are provided on the shelter deck, -and a dining saloon to accommodate all .the' passengers at one sitting is arranged-on. the upper deck'. The propelling* machinery consists of two sets of , triple-expansion engines, supplied with i steam from four single-ended steel boilers wo*kiug-under forced draught. Besides; tlje.jlfakarirri, the Tyser Line have • another vessel on the stocks of the same size as the new vessel. It is reported that both steamers will be engaged in the New Zealand-London,trade. Makaj-ini is the Maori equivalent for McLean,, and it. is said that the vessel w^s.sft,called as a compliment to Mr. r *o«Jgl?.i.^e.Lean 1 of Hawke's Bay.
The Rofoiti,_ well-known on this coast as,haying been for, some years in the Wellington-New Plymouth-Onehunga service, is at present on her way from Melbourne, to Port Chalmers, She is to be placed on a new ferry service between Napier arid'Gisborne wharf.
