Mrs. F. W. Sandford returned last night after visiting friends at Wanganui. Dr. Chesson, Chief Health Officer, arrived in New Plymouth last night on an official visit. The marriage of Mr. H. F. Haden, bank manager, and Miss Blennerhassett took place at All Saints' Church, Eltham, on Tuesday. Miss Teresa McEnroe, HA.B., A.T.C.L., arrived last night by the mail train from Wellington). She will take part in the Irish National concert this evening. A Gisborne telegram reports that the Hon. A. T. Ngata, who met with an accident near his home at Kakariki recently, is reported to be making favorable progress towards recovery. Mr. Ngata was kicked on the chest by a horse. , Ma/jor-General A. Pole Penton. C.V.0., C.8., (one time Commandant of the New Zealand Forces), now commanding Royal Artillery at Malta, is to succeed MajorGeneral F. A. Bowles, G. 8., in the command of the South-Western Coast Defences, from April 18th next. Mr. William Over, a veteran of His Majesty's 52nd! Regiment, died at his residence, at Eden Terrace, Auckland, on Saturday, at the age of <39 years. Deceased' held the rank of color-sergeant upon leaving his regiment, and was a highly-respectedi member of the Veterans' Association. To-morrow Miss Rosina Buckman leaves by the s.s. Rarawa en route to Sydney, where she is to sing the solos in Bach's Passion music, under engagement to the _ Sydney Philharmonic Society. She will subsequently go to Melbourne to rehearse for the production of Marshall Hall's "Stella," in which she takes the title role. At the conclusion of this engagement she returns to Auckland to sing Sullivan's Golden Legend at the Auckland Musical Unions' performance. Possibly afterwards she will go on to Wellington and Christchurch to sing in "Cavalerie Rusticana" for the musical societies of those towns. When these engagements are over she will give a few concerts in New Zealand J and a farewell one in New Plymouth! during May, prior to leaving for Europe. Miss Clarice Buckman accompanies her sister as far as Melbourne, where she is going to study at Marshall Hall's Conservatoire.
