MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Sitting in his civil jurisdiction at th* Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., gave judgment for the plaintiff in the undefended cases of J. Ward and Son v. Wm. J. claim £1 6s, costs ss; Miss L. R, Baker v. James Hickey, claim £ll 12s, costs £1 10s 6d. In the adjourned case in which A. W. Cowling proceeded against. the Deputy Official Assignee as administrator of th« bankrupt estate of Vincent, with a claim of £l9 fojr wages alleged to he due, the solicitors to both .parties intimated that an arrangement had been come to whereby the plaintiff. would accept judgment for £7 13s. His Worship made an order, directing this amount to-be paid out of the funds at present in the hands of the Taranaki County Council in connection. with contracts out of which the claim arose, together with coats £1 16s for plaintiff and £2 2s for the Official Assignee. Mr. Standish appeared for plaintiff and Mr. A. H. Johnstone for the Official Assignee. In the judgment summons case of John Grayson v. John F. Coster, defendant,'who made no appearance, was ordered to pay the amount claimed ( £4 17s 3d) on or before March 26, or in default undergo five days' imprisonment at Auckland. A FENCING CASE. Further evidence was taken in the l case partially heard at Waitara in which Campbell .proceeded against Florence Emma Jennins for damages for failure to erect a fence. Mr. Quilliam appeared for plaintiff and Mr. Roy. for defendant. According to the defendant, there watf an agreement between the two parties in reference to grassing, but not, to fencing. Fencing had never been mentioned at an interview, j Several witnesses were called in support of this contention. His Worship i' non-suited plaintiff.
