WAITARA NEWS
WAITARA REGATTA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) After holding twenty-five consecutive I fixtures the committee were on Monday night compelled to abandon the fixture which was set down for Easter Monday next. The execrable weather experienced during the past month is mainly re- ] sponsible for the decision of the committee, it having been so cold of an evening that club members did not care,to take the risk on the river, hence there has been no training. The Clifton Club were prepared to enter a crew for each event, but both Waitara and Tikorangi said they might possibly send one crew for the boys ? or junior race; but could do no more. In the face of this "it would have been a farce to have gone on with the fixture, and the committee wisely abandoned it for this year. , Messrs Je'riJiins (chairman), Birdling and Jennings, members of the Waitara Harbor Boarff, left for Wellington by mail train on Tuesday on harbor matters. Mr. H. E. Vaughan, county clerk, has been indisposed for the past week, suffering from a severe attack of influenza.
