LAND BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The Taranaki Land Board met yesterday morning. The Commissioner (Mr. Bullard) was in the chair, and the following member* were present: Messrs. slop, MeCluggage and Kennedy. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. J. K. Petersen applied for section 79, block 4, Paritutu, 210 acres, and A. Cameron for the right to lease section 4, block S. Upper Waitara, 1100 acres.— Both applications were approved, and that of Petersen in terms of sub-section 2, section 51, Land for Settlements Act, 1908. 0. Blowes withdrew his applicatibn for section 14, block 14, Opaku, and 'under the exceptional circumstances the board decided to refund his deposit. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were approved:— Levi Bunn' to J. Washington and J. . P. Thomas, section 12, block 0, Mapara, and section 16, block 6, Mapara; A. E. Speck to R. D. Rogers and C. A. Hammerton, section 5, block 10, Upper Waitara; G. Saunders and J. Leo to G. Saunders and B. O'Reilly, section 1, block, 15, Opaku; John Pentecost to J. A. and T. J.' Hight applied to sub-divide and transfer two roods (sub-divisions 13 and 14) of section 72, block 14, Pouatu, to Catherine Reckleben The board resolved to recommend the application, provided the lessee be required to retain, as part of the original section, one of! the' sub-divisions to provide an outlet <to the road. Samuel Lowe applied to transfer see-1 tion 5, block 13, and section 3, block 14, Upper Waitara to R. H. Phillips.—The transfer was refused, with the proviso that the board would have no objection to it being made to some landless person, j SUB-LEASES. A. and J. Subject to survey,, it was resolved to approve of the sub-division of the section for transfer of such portion as required by the- dairy company. Nine months' extension of . time was granted to H. W. A. Thompson on which to reside on section 20, block 13, Ohura. A sub-division was approved of the Manga road deviation in block 1, Taurakawa, and block 13, Mahoe. ; The board reconsidered the.question of the disposal of the section of Crown land in block 2, Heao, fronting the K'airo block, resolving to deier consideration until legal road access could be provided. The solicitors for A. Hatrick applied for a rehearing of the forfeiture of section 3, block 15, Ohura, originally held by J. Harris.-rThe board decided that, it' could not deal with the matter. The board approved proposals'submitted by the Ohura County Council for the expenditure of £277 Os 9d accrued thirds, and also granted the application of the same council for thirds on the Waiwaka and Rimu roads to be pledged for interest on a special loan. j A. J. Whittaker's application for fur-l ther consideration of the forfeiture of! section 1, block 2, Piopiotea West, was merely "received." - . A proposal to shift a cemetery reserve, section 27, block 11, Mapara, to a site on the Mokauiti road, was referred to the ranger for report, as wers also applications from W. 8. Martin for a portion, of the Tangitu township reserve,! and J. McFall for seetion 7,- block 12, Mapara. I CROWN RANGERS' REPORTS E. < Tolme, ranger, reported on the application of R. Roth for additional land adjoining his holding, section 5, block 15, Ohura, as a household site.—Consideration was deferred pending further report. Mr. Tolme also suggested a rental to be charged for section 20, block 2, creamery site, Heao, at which figure the board decided to grant a year-to-year tenancy to S., Gibbons. E. A< Meredith, assistant ranger, reported on the residence conditons of R. P. Beautrai's section 3, block 12, Mapara, and P. G. D. A. Guinan's section 25, block 11, Mapara. The board accepted Beautrai's explanation as' satisfactory, but decided to notify Guinan that if he was not on his section within one month his interest would be forfeited. Reporting on his inspection of eight holdings, of an aggregate area of 3459 acres, Ranger Twiss stated that improvements had been effected thereon to the value of £3442. The improvements actually required amounted to £1476. None of the settlers were in default for residence or improvements. E. Tolme also reported on the inspection of nine holdings, of an area of 1480 acres. The improvements effected were estimated at £2BOO. Improvements required were £443. None of the settlers were in default. NON-COMPLIANCE OF CONDITIONS. Cases of selectors who had not complied with conditions of residence and improvement were dealt with as follows: D. and F. J. EDUCATION RESERVES. A transfer was granted of section 2116, New Plymouth, from E. J. Girthew to T. G. Sole. H. T. Twiss reported having leased sections 5, 6, 9, and 10, block 27, Patea town, to John Davy.—Left in the hands of the Commissioner. The board resolved that the unlet reserves in the town of New Plymouth be offered for lease at the upset rentals as suggested by the Commissioner. The sitting then ■concluded.
