THE SINGER FRAUDS
EVIDENCE OF ASSISTANT MANAGER Dy fable—Press Association—Copyright. Received March 19, 10.25 p.m. Sydney, March 19. The Singer case was continued to-day. The assistant manager gave evidence that he and the cashier knew of Brown's overdraft and the period covered disclosed by the books. Browi* had absolute power, and Macpherson hid to take his instructions from Brown. Witness did not know anything about how Brown's overdraft was wiped off until he received a confession from Macpherson, which led to the present prosecution. There was nothing to show that Macpherson had acted wrongly or in concert with onyone else. Witness wired to Brown, who was then in India, that Macpherson had made a confession and absconded, and asking instructions. Brown replied: "Use your bwn judgment and be guided by circumstances." ■] Amongst the evidence was a letter from Brown to witness asking him to destrov all old cash-books and letters, in view of the possibility of a checker coming from New York.
