HUHEYVILLE SPORTS. (From Our Own Correspondent)". Our Athletic Club held its annual sports on Wednesday last, and were verv successful. The weather turned out all that could be desired, although threatening in the morning, and those present got plenty of excitement. The secretary (Mr. C. Taylor) and the committee are to be congratulated upon the result of their labors. The following are the results:— Chain-stepping—T. McMillan, 66ft (exact) 1. Sheep-guessing—D. B. Carey (55yds) 2, L. Hunt (35yds) 3. Time, 2min Bsec. 120 yds Maiden race—First heat: J. Connell 1, D. Thompson 2. Time, 15sec. Second heat: L. Robb 1, N. Scown 2. Time, 15sec. Final: L. Robb 1, N.Scown 2. Time, 13% sec. Won easily. 100 yds Handicap—L. Robb (oyds) 1, N. Scown (9yds). 2, B. Turner "(6yds) 3. Time, 10 3-ssec. Robb landed an easy winner. Seven started. In the evening the annual concert wa» held in the hall, and was well attended. The concert committee had worked up a good programme, in addition to which the well-known singing comedian, Mr. R. Farmer (Waitara) was engaged. The following programme was gone through: Overture, Mrs. Butler; song, Miss Carey (Patea), encored; song, "Asleep on the Deep," Mr. McDonald (encored); duet, "Life's Dream is O'er," Misses Carey; recitation, Mr. Ryan; song, Mr. McDonald; song, "Because," Mr. Del Toser (encored); local hits in verse, by Mr. Johnny Cullen, caused much laughter; bagpipe selection, Mr. McGowan. Mr. Farmer was accorded a cordial reception, his reputation as a humorist having preceded him. He supplied nine items, most of them in character, and was voted a host in himself. After supper had been I provided, the large crowd settled down to the dance, which held sway until about 2 a.m. on Thursday. Mr. K. H. Cave presided at the concert, which was admitted to be the best ever held in this district.
