Stark, manager of the Bank of New South Wales there, has been promoted to the charge of the Sydney office. The Commissioner of Police and Under Secretary of Justice, Mr. F. G. B..Waldegrave, retires at the end of this monthj on superannuation,after 38 years' service. He has planned a trip to England, and may settle there, though this lift* 1 ' not been decided yet. Mr. P. Galvin, who is well-known in* journalistic; .circles, at one time proprietor of the Hawera Star, subsequently editor of the Government Mining Record,- v and now on the staff of the Wellington Evening Post, passed through New Plymouth yesterday on a holiday visit. Mr. Chas. Ahier, accompanied by his niece, Miss Ahier, left for Auckland last night by the Rarawa. They will proceed to Sydney by the Maheno next week to connect with the Osterley for England. They will spend some time in Jersey, which Mr. Ahier is re-visiting after* an absence of 50 years. We understand that Mr. W. H. Humphrey, of Inglewood, is to take charge of the Ingle wood company of senior! cadets. Since his arrival in Inglewood* Mr. "Humphrey has been actively in-> terested in the Scout movement. The i Inglewood Scouts, of which he is Scout- \ master, is a real live and progressive n body. ► Messrs Colin M. Gilray, S. N. Ziman.'j' and C. W. D. Littlejohn (one time ofKelson, New Zealand), were thre* Rhodes scholars who last year took tht ' degree of B.A. at Oxford University. The last-named, who was Victoria's 1909 Rhodes scholar, and who is at New College, took a first-class in natural scienc* (physiology) in the final honors school.. Mr.'Alan MacDougall, 1909 New Zealand Rhodes scholar (New College), was admitted last year to read for the Advanced Degree of B. Litt. (English Literal ture). Littlejohn rowed for his Unirersity against Cambridge. The annual mentions, further, that two scholars,(obb American and one colonial) failed in tke B.C.L. examination.
