ASSAULTS ON WOMEN. By Telegraph—Pr<iss Association. Auckland, Saturday. At the Police Court, Bernard Hiiton Moss was committed for trial on a charge of having assaulted Mrs. Maria New, causing actual bodily harm. Detective Marsack, in opening the case against accused, said that for some time past cases of women being knocked down by a mysterious assailant in the vicinity of Epsom and Iteiuuera had been reported to the police. In each case a single blow had been given, but no attempt was made to rob or otherwise interfere with women. In the present case Mrs. New saw the person who assaulted her, and identified him as the accused. . Mrs. in giving evidence, stated that when she was proceeding home at II p.m. accused followed hen As she was crossing the road to her home, accused struck her and she became unconscious. When she recovered she was lying on the road, with four teeth broken. She saw accused running off. She had money and jewellery on her, but was not robbed. Nothing was done to her except the blow. Aewh° pleaded not guilty, was admitted to bail on two sureties of £75 each.
