April B—Patea Racing Club, April 8, 9—Canterbury Jockey Club. April 8, 9 —Auckland Racing Club. COMING EVENTS. April 6—A.R.C. Easter Handicap. April '(3— G.N. Champagne Stakes. April 'B—G.N. Oaks. TURF TOPICS. N (By "Moturoa.") Opunake races on Monday. Seaman has broken it for a' win. Darby Paul reads well in the hurdle race at Opunake. A heap of Wanganui money changed hands when Grandee, failed on Wednesday. John has been put into commission again, and should be lit for a goc/d hurdle race shortly. • Sir Knox is reported to be training on well, and will be a starter in the Waipipi Cup at the end of the month. Of the crowd engaged in the Opunake Handicap the hurdlers Cornelian and Sandy Paul should run well. Nyland was sent out a warm favorite for the Napier Cup, and when apparently winning easily met with injuries which make it unlikely that he will ever race again. _ AVhen the weights appeared for the second day at Wanganui it was seen that Mr. Morse placed Counterfeit and Bronze on the same mark over a mile and a half. In the Great Autumn Handicap Mr. Henrys assesses Counterfeit only lib better than the Highden flyer, so in this case the weight adjusters do not vary much. Ormond's colors have had a bad run this season, but at Napier Park this week their luck was right in. Marimba and Eocene scored on the first day, and Idealism, paid a good price for second in the Cup. On Thursday Marimba made no race of the two-year-old handicap, and Faunus paid a very respectable dividend in the St. Patrick's Handicap. North-East is rapidly fining down, and will be in racing trim very soon. The sprint events at Opunake promise to supply good sport. Royal Simon may stajt favorite in the Maiden, and Galtee and Topic will have plenty of friend* • in the Electric and Final Scurries. ,

Master Sylvia's mishap at Wanganui is still affording food for "copy," and a Palmerston' scribe told his readers this week that "Master Sylvia, was kicked I on the head and was rendered unconscious for fully half an hour." Next! Seaman was well supported by his Wanganui friends both days at Napier Park. On the first day he tried to bring the last hurdle home with him, and F. Lind was seen to advantage in a dangerous pinch. After a good recovery Seaman got into second place behind Merrie Lad. Needless to add, there were many smiling faces when the horse led the field home on Thursday and paid a good price. Maori King was not nearly ready at Napier, but ran a smart race in the Plying Handicap. A few more gallopi and "the King" will be ready for Ellersiie. Parewanui, Who was considered good enough to pay up for in the Jackson Stakes —though not started on the day | —ran prominently at Napier on Wednes- | day, and was catching Makara fast over | the last furlong of the Esk Hack Handicap. Parewanui paid a good dividend for second" place, and is worth watching; i Barring accidents, Nylaiul and Aberbrothock would probably have paid the dividends in the Napier Cup on Wednesday, and with that to go on it is wonderful how punters allowed Aberbrothock to pay such a good price in the big race j the next day. The -Palmerston horse is j coming back to his old form. Los Angeles has been awarded top weight in both the Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicap, and most turf followers will agree that this much overrated horse has. got all the worst of the deal. Mr. R. O'Donnell got rid of Los Angeles at the right time, and bis new owners will, find it hard to win a race wit"h the hone. 1
