DISTRICT NEWS.

I EG MONT VILLAGE. (Fr(m Our Own Correspondents). A considerable amount of interest, ani even in some cases excitement, is being evinced in the Village at present in connection with the forthcoming sports, which eventuate on Monday next. The entries in the five cup events total sft, and some very good finishes are expected. ; Mr. J. Gibbs has declared the following handicap (A. Street's handicaps are held over till day of sports):—looyds: Stanley scr., Orr Iyd, G. Marsh and Chong 3yds, Magee 4yds, Molloy and Burrows syds, Egarr and Longstaff 6yds, Kearney, Gopperth, Taylor, Kidd "and Jury 7yds, Batten 12yds. 220vds: Stanley scr., Orr 3yds, Longstaff and Marsh 9yds, Gopperth, Molloy and Jury 10yds, Magee 'l2yds, Chong 13yds, Kearney 16 yds, Taylor 20yds, Batten 30yds. 440vds: Stanley scr., Francis 2yds, Orr 9yds, Her- | bert and Gopperth 15yds, Longstaff 18 | yds, Magee 22yds. 880 yds: Stanley scr., | Gopperth 10yds, Burrows 10yds, Herbert ! 12yds, Orr 20yds, Betridge and Longstaff 40yds, Kidd 50yds. 120 yds hurdles: Stanley owes 12yds, Egarr and Francis owe 9yds, Chong and Longstaff owe 8 J-ds, Orr owes 6yds, Marsh owes syds, Magee owee syds, Burrows and Jury owe 3yds, Kidd scr. Acceptances close with the secretary at 12 o'clock on the day of sports. Local fishermen have been doing fairly well lately, some very nica catches having been reported, the Waiwakaiho being the principal source from whicl\ they have been taken. The weather has been absolutely vile, and numbers of the farmers have had their oat crops spoiled. LINCOLN ROAD. The school inspector (Mr. Whetter) paid the school a visit on Tuesday. On the same day Mr. Boldt (secretary of the school committee) and Mr. E. D. Stewart visited the school and presented the boys with a new, cricket set. Mr. Stewart showed the boys how to 'play the game,' and I am pleased to say the lessons were taken to heart. I may say that that erstwhile sport, Mr. Geo. Gudgeon, of Inglewood, presented the school with a new bat and ball. Needless to say. the gifts are much appreciated. There is some talk of the suppliers of the Moa Dairy Co. holding a monster picnic or sports. A meeting is to be held shortly to discuss the project. Some seem to think if it were held about April 18 it would not be too late, and it would give the "cookies" a better chance then, as the milking will have slackened off considerably.
