INCREASING MEMBERS' SALARIES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 14. In the Assembly, Mr. Wade opposed the Bill increasing members' salaries to £SOO and providing the Leader of the Opposition with an extra allowance of £250. There was nothing, he said, to justify a House with any sense of selfrespect voting themselves remuneration without the warrant of- the constituents/ He urged that they must consult electors. He would not be a party to imposing heavy burdens on taxpayers. The Council, continuing its amendments to the Industrial Arbitration Bill, deleted clauses providing a penalty for employers locking out employees. THE COMMISSIONER AND THE IMPORTATION OF ENGINES. Sydney, March 14. Tlie Commissioner replies to Mr. McGowen's statement regarding the local manufacture of engines that in December, 1010, the Everleigh shops were able to construct only 25 locomotives annually; therefore it was found necessary to import largely.
