BOXING

IRELAND DEFEATS GRIFFIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. A large number of spectators witnessed the boxing contest between Barney Ireland (Waipawa), champion middle-weight of New Zealand (11.2) and Jim Griffen (Greymouth), ex-cham-pion middle-weight of Australia (11.7), in the Municipal Theatre, AVaipawa, tonight for a purse of £4O, fifteen threeminute rounds. The first round saw some vigorous boxing, both men mixing matters willingly. Ireland took entire charge in the second round, Griffin being practically knocked out when the referee (Tim Tracy) stopped the fight.
