Fierce fighting took place at Canton between recruits under former pirate chiefs and the regulars, owing to the proposed disbanding of the former Between 100 and 200 were killed or .wounded. It is reported that soldiers at the Bogue forts, Canton, have revolted against the Republic, and threaten steamers proceeding np the river.
