GOLF.
TAEAHUA CLUB. The annual meeting of the Tarahua Golf Club was held last evening, there being a fair attendance of members, notwithstanding the unfavorable weather. The president (Mr. T. C. List) presided. The annual report was as follows: — The committee have pleasure In presenting their third annual report. The past season proved most successful and enjoyable. The play as a whole showed a marked improvement., and with the better conditions that will obtain this season the standard should be improved still more. Several trophies were kindly donated, and the competitions that followed elicited some keen and interesting play. During the year your committee availed themselves of an offer to leaee for a number of years the present lfnks' together with sufficient ground for putting down fin additional nine holes, making the links an eighteen-hole one. The preparatory work in connection with the latter is well under way, though it is not expected the new holes will be ready in time for this year's play. The committee also put in hand the work of enlarging and repassing the greens on I'm present it is expected they will be ready for use almost immediately. The approaches are also being improved, as well as the whole of the course. A permanent caretaker has been appointed, and is doing good work. The committee will ask you to increase th" subscription to £2 2s for men and £1 10s for ladies, and 10s 6d for honor/i i'v members. It has been decided to put in gas at "the pavilion, and further improve it as means will allow. The committee desires to thank a member for his generosity in having the building painted. Your committee recommend that the season be" opened on the 30th inst. Arrangements have been made with Mr. McCormack to give lessons for a fortnight from the Ist prox., and members who desire lessons are asked to hand in their names at onee to the secretary. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman paid a tribute to the work of the hon. secretary (Mr. W. H. Broome), who, he regretted , to say, was unable to continue in office. The club's finances were in a satisfactory condition, though care would have to be exercised. The outlook generally was distinctly bright. The club was losing ai few members by removal from the district, but these would be more than made by new members. With the improved links and appointments the club J should have a vefv successful season. The report ami balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. T. C. List (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. Geo Grey and R. Coek; captain, Mr. G. Grey; secretary' pro tem, Mr. W. Douglas; treasurer, Mr. Lawrey; auditor, Mr. R. H. George; committee, Messrs R. H. George, E. Cooke, E: Avery, W. Wood. The ladies will elect their own officers. The subscription was fixed—gents' £2 2s, ladies' £1 ss; honorary members 10s Bd, all subscriptions unpaid after the beginning of season or a month after election to be increased by £1 Is in ease of gentlemen and 10s 6d in case of ladies. ■ , The opening of the season was fixed for Saturday, 30th March. Fifteen new members were elected. Votes of thanks to the retiring officers j and the chnirwin closed the meeting.
