Alison [ (by. Soult) recently woa a big race very [ easily at the West Australian T.C. | meeting. Maori King has been off the scene for sflpne time, but; was recently put into commission again, and will be amongst the runners at Napier this week. . A northern paper reports that the Taranaki horseman F. Flynn has accepted Mr. W. Montgomery's offer to pilot Hoanga and Seldom in 'Stralia this autumn. Weights for the Auckland Easter Handicap are attracting much notice, and the chances of Royal Scotch, Boanerges, Dearest and Antoinette are freely discussed. The Taranaki horses are in very lightly as follows: Crown Pearl 7.4, Smilax 7.2, Royal Arms .7.1, and Golden Loop. 7.0. From all accounts the "rough riding" at O'Neill's buck-Jumping show was a mere trifle in comparison with that practised at Dannevirke on the concluding day of the meeting. In several instances apparently certain winners were boldly "ridden-off" at the home turn, > and the jockaters took charge of the racing and did what they liked'. Little sympathy' will be felt for Grav, and a twelve months' spell will give him something to brood over. Several who witnessed the riding in the Telephone Handicap told this scribe early on Saturday that Gray was sure to be handed out the rest-cure, and not without much provocation either. Country stewards are , generally lax in the discharge of their ► duties, but when they wake up, as they do occasionally, some of the smart ones J are made to suffer. „
