THE NEWCASTLE CRISIS. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 11. Both- sides ill the Newcastle crisis liave declared a truce and the temporary postponement of hostilities as the immediate result of a proposal by the chairman of the Conciliation Committee that delegates on each side meet and mutually confer on the position and then report to the chairman. The proprietors agreed, and the men eventually agreed conditionally upon arrangements being made to hold special urgent meetings of all lodges throughout the district. There are important developments in the Newcastle mining position. The Aberdare, Aberdare Extended, Neath, and East Greta miners have decided not to work a second shift. PREPARED EOR COAL STRIKE. Received 11, 9.50 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. All the big users of coal are more or less prepared for the Newcastle strike. Many thousands'of tons are stored in Sydney. It is rumored that some of the colliery proprietors would welcome a stoppage, in order to cancel unprofitable contracts in Sydney. ABOLISHING A WATCH. Received 11, 9.50 p.m. Melbourne, March 11. The miners of the Wonthaggi State mine decided to ballot to abolish the dog watch. This means dispensing with between two hundred and three hundred men. CONFERENCE DISSOLVED. Received 11, 9.50 p.m. Melbourne, March 11. The compulsory conference between steamship owners and waterside workers has been dissolved, as it was reported that work was proceeding satisfactorily at both Sydney and Melbourne. CONFERENCE AUTHORISED. Received 12, 1 a.m. Sydney, March IT!" - "*' Lodge meetings at Stanford. Merthyr. Pelaw Main, Hepburn, East Greta. Soutlj Greta and Cessnoek, adopted the Delegate Board's minutes authorising a com fcrenee on the afternoon shift and appointed delegates to attend the meeting. They were instructed to favor an open conference, with au independent chairman, to take only oral evidence.
