MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE. Bj Telegraph—Press Association. Eketahuna, Saturday. Some apprehension has been occasioned an Eketahuna through the disappearance of Mr. R. J. McLean, Eketahuna county clerk. McLean left home on Friday morning, and wag last seen about mid-day.. As he did not return home, a search party was organised and is now out searching. FRACAS IN AN HOTEL. Auckland, Saturday. An extraordinary occurrence took place in the bar of the Occidental Hotel last night. It is stated that five youths entered the bar, and after having drinks expressed some grievance against a Whangarei barman who happened to be in the bar. It is alleged that they set upon him and handled him very roughly. They drove off in a motor-car, and returned subsequently and asked for drink, which the barman objected to supply in consequence of their behaviour on the previous visit. They became abusive, and an Auckland resident stepped in from another part of the hotel and advised them to be quiet. It is alleged that they set upon him, knocked him on the floor, and kicked him. The proprietor of the hotel appearing on the scene, they again deeamped in the motor-car, which was identified as a hired vehicle. The police are now on their track. NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE. Wellington, Saturday. The New Zealand Alliance expresses deep regret that the Governor's Speech was silent regarding licensing, though 259,943 voted for national prohibition, being a majority of 54,282. Steps are being taken with a view of securing the removal of the three-fifths handicap without further delay.
