Arkwright, who resigned. THE EDUCATION BILL, DENOMINATIONAL SCHOOLS. London, March 8., In the House of Commons Mr. Marks introduced a Bill empowering owners of non-provided schools in single school areas to transfer the schools to local authorities. If the owners desired denominational teaching to be given twice weekly It must be at the denominations' expense. The" denominations are also to be allowed the use of the schools on Saturdays and Sundays. A COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME PROPOSED.' , Received 11, 12.40 a.m. London, March 9. Mr. J. Pease declared that Mr. Marks' Bill as a practical step affected onefourth of the children of the voluntary schools. The Government in 1913 was bringing down a comprehensive scheme on a national basis. He was prepared to give the present Bill his heartiest, support, reserving any suggestions for the committee stage. He urged sectarians to accept what was common to the great body of Christians, or the country would adopt a secular system. • Personnel of the British navy. London,. March 8. The Morning Post states that the Government proposes to increase the personnel of the Navy. THE PREMIER BANQUETTED. London, March 8. Six thousand Liberals tendered a luncheon to the Premier at Covent Garden to celebrate the Parliament Act. The Premier, responding, said he was hopeful of the strike being honorably settled. The Liberals had never pretended that the Parliament Act was an end in itself; it was only a means to other ends.
