Pease declared that Mr. Marks' Bill as a practical step affected onefourth of the children of the voluntary schools. Six thousand Liberals tendered a luncheon to the Premier at Covent Garden to celebrate the Parliament Act. The Premier, responding, said he was hopeful of the strike being honorably settled. The Liberals had never pretended that the Parliament Act was an end in itself; it was only a means to other ends.
