THE LABOR MEMBERS' VOTES.

To the Editor. Sir,—-I am much obliged to you fpr publishing my letter, though I consider it a rightful privilege to any man with honest purpose. But I have a few wordsto say to you about the Laborites arid your part in the matter. It suits you that 'the Laborites should break thpjr pledges and make themselves turn-coaik. Those pledges, in every instance, I believe, were made with a dishonest purpose, namely, to increase their chance of success. Then as soon its the advantage was gained they began to relapse. They may assign some sort of a reason for such relapse, but their plea is a sham. It is entirely due to their lack of mqral principle. : It was cowardly and hypocritical. They were neither true to themselves nor anybody else. I have read ■their speeches as far as they were reported, - *nd.-*" iw *Vf < "«"inioii, ■••mit-Uer worth listening to pdr reporting. It was a lot of nonsensical blowj it wafc political rubbish and ' humbug. their conduct was contemptible. If the so-called Liberal Government expecti to carry on with such-like material tliey are in a fair way for a break-down,*; .Your political party have not the materia}ate make a strong and good Cabinet. Ais I have intimated before, the tendency of the Government is to lower the standard of man. The Government's political men are only second-rate men; they have been debased by narrow and selfish purposes. There is a great lack of moral and intellectual character. I see thai your political party expects to be abld to pick it up again, but I am apprehend sive that they will be deceived. In my description I have included the Independents with the Laborites. There is little difference between them.—l atm, etc., JAMES FORTUNE. (We refer to the above in oui 1 editorial columns.)
