SIR JOSEPH WARD.
HEARTY RECEPTION ALONG MAIN TRUNK. By Telegraph—Press Association. Taihape, Last Night. Sir Joseph Ward received very hearty receptions from residents at Palmerston North, Eeilding and Hunterville, on his way north by the Main Trunk express to-day, hearty cheesing being given at each of these stations. At Hunterville there was a large gathering of workers, who called for three lusty cheers for, as they termed him, "the man who kept the old flag flying." At Taihape there was a large concourse, and many hearty congratulations were tendered Sir Joseph. Great enthusiasm was displayed, and hearty cheers were given on his departure.
A BUSY PROGRAMME. The Prime Minister (Sir J. G. Ward), saye the Wellington Times, left Wellington yesterday for Auckland, where lie will carry 'out a busy programme. At 3 p.m. on Monday he will turn the first sod, at Waihi, of the railway extension towards Tauranga, and on Tuesday afternoon he intends to be at Ngaruawahia to- perform a similar ceremony in connection with a branch railway connecting up the Waipa col-, lieries with the main line. The railwayis being constructed by Messrs. Donald McLean and Co. for the Waipa Railway and Collieries, Ltd. It is five and a half miles in length. If time permits, Sir Joseph Ward will attend the Premier picnic at Auckland to-day. He is due to return to Wellington on Wednesday afternoon.
