Mr. S. W. Shaw was last night appointed representative of the Chamber of Commerce on the Technical College Advisory Committee. Mr. James ICnowles, a Port Ahuriri (Napier) old identity, is dead, aged 70. He had been 32 years in the employ of the Napier Harbor Board.

A cablegram from Sydney last night ft . states that after speaking at the Home Rule meeting on Thursday night, Sir William Lyne had a sudden seizure, and lias been in a state of coma since. His condition is serious. It is supposed that a blood vessel in the brain buret. Private L. Loveday, of the Woodville Rifles, the winner of the rifle championship, is 21 years of age. He is a son of Qeorge Loveday, who has : shot brilliantly at association meetings since 1896. Loveday, sen., was a member of the Woodville Rifle ,team which established a world's record for five men at 200, 500 and 600 yards with the Martini-Henry rifle at the Federal meeting at. Oamarn in 1896, when the team beat the, crack teams of Queensland,' Victoria and New South Wales. Leslie Loveday, the present champion, was a member of the last, Bisley team, shooting brilliantly .'at . 'Hoifie and winning a place as New Zealand's sole representative in the Prince of Wales competitions-one of the most select and keenest • contested' matches fired.-annually at Bisley. He secured several big prizes on the great convincing ground, getting a place in the final stage of the King's Hundred. At the New South Wales and Victorian meetings list year he shot well, winning several prices. Young Loveday is looked upon By the best judges of shooting as the finest marksman New Zealand has ever produced. He first shot at Trentham foujr years ago, without much success, but ever since lias occupied a prominent posir tion.
