GOLF.
NEW PLYMOUTH GOLF CLUB.., ANNUAL MEETING. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the New* Plymouth Golf Club, which was held lastnight in the Municipal Chambers. Mr.* C. A. Benbow, club captain, was in the ehair.
In his annual report the retiring secretary (Mr. J. W.*' Haslam) congratulated the clubi on its continued progress. The links, he said, had been kept in their usual good order and play had been possible »■ during the full 12 .months. Great credit was due to Mr. Bennett,, the ground-keeper,' in this connection.-. Starting with a credit balance of £22 8s 7d, the period to the 3,lst December,. 1911, had closed with,a debit balance <jf £l2 9s 3d. During the year the sum of £IOO was placed in the Savings Bank, making a total of £ 150 now on deposit. ■ The year's working actually showed' V • profit of £69 17s lOd. The membership 1 of the club now stood as follows: Playing—men G4, ladies 54j non-playing—-■ men 6, ladies 16. Pleasure was expressed that the president, Mr. Standifch, was now able to get about the links agaih. The committee had engaged Mr. Me--Cormick, the Auckland professional, for two weeks from April 9th, and also for two weeks in May, and the hope was expressed that members would take full advantage of his services. The name of he club wa g now the New uolf Club. The new grounds were to be known as the Ngamotu links. The committee had increased its number to six in accordance ,with the new rules by appointing Messrs. J. Paton and W. C, Weston; As the lease ,'of the present links expires 'on March 31st, 1913, the committee deemed it advisable to apply for an extension, which was readily granted by Mr. Standish. the new Links. 1
The report'went on to state that an option had been received over the property at Waiwakaiho, held by the true-'l- - of the late Wro. Bayly, containing 220 axjres odd. Actftig on the report (which was exceptionally favorable) of 4 Mr. F. G. Hood, of Auckland, the property was finally secured. It is lease- ' hold, with 14 years of the present term, to run, with perpetual right of, renewal. A portion of the purchase money had ■ been left on mortgage, the balance having been taken up in debentures. The property was secured subject to a lease of five years to Mr. H. T. Joll, from whom the committee had obtained satisfactory terms for playing rights till the - end of his lease. An 18-hole course had • been marked out. It now remained for the members to decide whether the club . should remain on the present links—the please of which could be. terminates''' by the club giving six months' notic«— 1 or move at an early date fo the.new ; course. The recommendation of the • committee was that the new links be a opened with the Easter tournament of 1913, and that it be authorised to take the necessary steps to have the links put in order for play, including the removal .of the club's property from the present links and to terminate, the present lease with Mr. Standish. The cost' if new P ro P ert y was £2791 14s Bd. " £2oo° was secured on mortgage, while £BOS waft owing on debentures. ■.,. By a unanimous vote the meeting re-, solved to give effect to the committee's recommendation in regard to the opening of the new grounds next year. ■ The balance-sheet showed a balance of - assets over liabilities of £248 ,6s 5d which includes a deposit at the bank of c ' 1 £152. During the year £232 had been received m subscriptions. _ ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. A. Standish (re-elected); vice-presidents, Dr. Walker, Messrs. E. T. Morshead and D. K. Morrison; captain, Mr. W. Bewley; secretary, Mr. J. J. Pat on; treasurer, Mr. C. A. Benbow; committee, v Messrs. A. H. Glasgow, F. S. Johns, 0." 7 Arnold Jones, A. Bewley, D. K. Mornson,o H. Burgess; hon. auditor,' Mr. i V. Elliott; ladies' captain, Miss Standish; ladies' secretary, Mrs. C. .ArnoM '! Jones; ladies' committee, Mestfames *' 3 Glasgow and C. H. Weston, Misses Percy-Smith, Johnson and Bewley. It was decided to have the—links ready for play on March 30th, but thjit the official opening should /not take plaoe until after the Easter tsnnuunejit, entries for which close on April 3. Upon Mr. Paton's suggestion, it was also de- , cided _to have an official closing some time ip October, on which date the presentation of prizes will take place. Votes of thinks were accorded to the sub-committee which selected the new. ground, and to Mr: Bewley for the 1 efforts he had devoted to the links. , c l Several members paid a handsome com- ' i pliment to Mr. Bewley in this connection.
During the evening Mr. Bewley intimated that Mr. Standish wished mem/' bers to knw that if the club decided to go out to the new links in 1913, would be very pleased to allow them the use of the present links without payment. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr, Standish for his offer. —* After some discussion it was decided that the subscription for the ensuing .year be £2 15s for men and £1 15s for ladies, to include locker rent and telephone, and that the entrance fee be waived for this season.
