CRICKET.

THE BOARD OF CONTROL. I ITS PERSONNEL ATTACKED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 6. Clem Hill, in a long letter to the press detailing the players' view in the dispute, attacks the personnel of the Board of Control. He states, with reference to Layer's refusal to hand to the Board the books relating to a tour, that they were Layer's private property. McAlister, as treasurer, failed to keep books, and desired Layer's in order to give the Board information. Laver afterwards offered to show McAlister the books in order to dispel grounds for the insinuations that something was wrong. McAlister then replied that he did not want them, but as Laver was disloyal he could not confirm Ms appointment as manager.

Melbourne, March 6. A movement is afoot to present McElhone with a testimonial, but the. University Club has passed a resolution that such action is singularly inappropriate. THE PLUNKET SHIELD. SHEFFIELD CONDITIONS SUGGESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Wellington Cricket Association last night decided to suggest to the New Zealand Cricket Council that the Plunket Shield should be awarded in the same manner as the Sheffield Shield in Australia. All assoeiations should play not less than one home and one out match every season, and the team securing the most points should obtain the shield. Three points should be allowed for an outright win, two for a first innings win, and one for a tie or draw. Three points should be deducted for an outright loss, and two for a first innings loss. In the event of a points tie the shield should go to the team averaging the most rtfus per wicket.

There will be no senior cup fixtures to-day. Several other matches have, however, been arranged. Mr. A. S. Hasell is taking down a "Wanderers" eleven to play the/local club at Tikorangi, and Mr. W. Mattfiews, of Inglewood, is taking a team to Hawera. At Inglewood a house match between Newton King's I New Plymouth and Stratford staffs will I be played.

The following will represent Carrington Road juniors in their match against High School B on the latter's ground:— H. Skelton, H. Hooker, J. Vale, C. Hodges, Knauf, Howson, P. Hooker, H. McEwen, W. McEwen, Billings and Elliot.

The following will represent Mr. Newton King's local staff to'play the staff of the Stratford branch at Inglewood:— H. L. Outfield, G. M. Kebbell, C. Fairbrother, R. Cannell, R. Renner, W. Healy, A. Healy, H. L. Simpson, C. Day, G. Goldsworthy and E. King.

PROPOSED KING GEORGE'S HALL ' BENEFIT MATCH. To the Editor. Sir,—l am given to understand that a challenge has been sent to the New Plymouth Borough Council from the Taranaki County Council to play a friendly game x>t cricket in Pukekura Park. Now, Mr. Editor, taking into consideration that Mr. Walter Ambury, the worthy president of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, is a member of the New Plymouth Borough Council, and I believe knows something about cricket, I would suggest that the mat«h should be held in aid of the Agricultural Hall, and if a little enthusiasm was taken would result in a considerable sum. Probably the New Plymouth Cricket Club would lend their material. And/ as you, Sir. know the personnel of the two local bodies, you might (through a member of your staff) describe the individual merits (as cricketers) of the likely players.—l am, etc., j.R.H.
