HON. T. MACKENZIE INTERVIEWED. Christchurch, Wednesday. The Hon. T. Mackenzie passed through Christchurch on his way to Dunedin. Questioned regarding his own future, he said he would take any position the party thinks he ought to occupy after it had exhaustively considered all the circumstances. His own opinion is that at a time like the present, every member of the party should practice self-abnegation, and be prepared to do what was most likely to settle the difficulties and advance the cause of Liberalism. "CALLS" TO THE UPPER HOUSE. WOULD BE END OF GOVERNMENT. Christchurch, Saturday.: Referring to the statement that "one outcome of -the now cleared political atmosphere will be a number of 'calls' to the Legislative Council," the Lyttelton Times (the Ministerial organ)' says:— "If this, by any unhappy chance, should be the outcome of the rejection of Mr. Massey's no-confidence motion, the only other possible outcome would be the immediate removal of the Liberal Party from the Treasury benches. The Conservatives have not yet been forgiven for the appointments they made to V Council in a fit of party aberration more than 20 years ago, just after they.-had been defeated at. the polls, and the «» pomtments hinted at would be a hun-" tired times more reprehensible than were those. It is simply incredible that the Prime Minister, with an overwhelming Liberal majority in the Council, and With the reform of the Chamber being seriously discussed, can have even thought of such a suicidal proceeding. It would mean the prompt ending of hto political career amidst a storm of public indignation and resentment which no Minister pf the Crown in this country has yet had to endure."
