Mr. Wilson, Trade Commissioner from Hull, is greatly struck with the phenomenal progress made by Australian producers, but says they must wake up to the fact that another port besides London required their produce, otherwise a glut would spoil their market. During February the Mount Morgan gold reduction works treated 5254 tons ore, which produced 3650 ounces gold. The copper reduction works 1 treated 17,784 tons for 512 tons blister copper, containing 507 tons copper and 7520 ounces gold. The yield was affected by the strike, a section of the men trolled from Brisbane causing a temporary shutting down of the works. INCREASED RENTS COMMITTEE. Sydney, March 6. Mr. Griffiths, giving evidence before the'lncreased Rents Committee, said high rents were chiefly due to the increase of the price of labor and materials.
