LOVE AND LAMPS
A MYSTERY SOLVED. Auckland, March $. The course of true love has been at the root of a mystery which has just been solved by the Remuera Road Board. For some time past complaints have been received of the lamps not being alight m some of the streets of the district during certain hours of the evening. The lamp-lighter, on being questioned stated positively that the lamps in queition were regularly lighted, and in order to ascertain the cause of their not keeping alight a watch was kept. It was discovered that certain lamps were inconveniently near the gates at which certain young men are in the habit of saying "good-night" to their sweethearts after their evening walks. Consequently, the love-stricken awains have resorted to the expedient of turning out the lamps and omitting to light them again. One or tw.o of the offenders have been warned, and it is not likely that there will be any further interference with the lamps so far as they are concerned.
