' FLOODS AT COROMANDEL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The unfavorable weather continues, and small coastal vessels are delayed. Reports from Cpromandel state that the heavy rain resulted in floods. Many houses were inundated, especially in the lower part of the town, and the stock in the shops and furniture are seriously damaged. Land slips were numerous. HAWSE'S BAY A. AND P. SHOW. Hastings, Last Night. The Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society's eleventh autumn show opens to-morrow ,with record entries. The display of fruit is the largest seen in the Dominion. Apples are a strong feature, the judge (Mr. D. A. Hay, Auckland) stating that the winning exhjbit is the best he had ever seen. The weather promises to be fine. NELSON HARBOR IMPROVEMENTS. Nelson, Last Night. Nelson Harbor Board has decided to tiarry out a scheme of harbor improvement by deepening the channel, at a cost of about £SOOO, if the Railway Department can be induced to provide a deeper berthage at the wharf, which the scheme entails. The Department declined to undertake the work on the ground that the number of ocean-going steamers working the port did not warrant the expenditure. A deputation is to wait on the Minister to emphasise the ■ necessity for the work, as the inadequate depth of the berth is militating against the progress of the district. The improvement of the channel inside and outside the entrance was recommended by the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, and tie board contemplates an immediate start on the inside portion. THE PRESS CONFERENCE. Greymouth, Last Night. The delegates to the Press Association Conference have had delightful weather in Greymouth, and to-day the last of them left overland for Chr'istchurch. The delegates express themselves well pleased with the Coast trip, and are delighted at the prospects and progress of the district.
