CONCLUSION OF CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Kotorua, Last Night. The Fire Brigades Conference to-day passed various remits amending the rules for competitions. President Boycs presented stars for 25 years' service to fifteen members. He also presented Fireman Gilberd, for his father, ex-President Gilberd (Napier), a life membership badge of the association. Invitations were received from Palmerston and Wanganui for the biennial demonstration and conference next year, and the brigades will ballot by post. Past President Robbins read an instructive paper on some of the objects of the M.F.B.A. A committee was set up to consider ways and means of improving fire ,and ambulance record, and a subsidy of £25 was voted. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £2OO. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Lieut. Leaver (Westport) unopposed; vice-presidents, Deputy Superintendent Salmon (Dunedin) and Captain Campbell (Timaru); treasurer, Superintendent Sprigging The installation of officers and the presentation of past presidents' certificates and life membership badge to President Boyes concluded the conference. To-morrow the citizens entertain the delegates to a trip across the lake and on Friday Wairba geyser will be soaped, the- finale being a smoke concert on Friday night.
ACCIDENT ASSURANCE FUND. SUPERINTENDENT BELLRLNGER APPOINTED PRESIDENT. Rotorua, Last Night. The annual meeting of the Fire Brigades Association Accident Assurance Society was held this evening, Captain Hansen (Westport) presiding. The report stated that' the brigades affiliated numbered 90, with a membership of ICm. The constitution amounted to £l9B lis 2d, and the total receipts £273 12s 7d.' Payments for accidents amounted to £2lO 10s. The total accumulated fund was £1723 Bs, an increase of £6l Os 7d on the year. The management fund's receipts, including £26 19s 5d carried forward, totalled £6B 9s sd, and the expenditure £3O 10s 7d. The position of the society warrants the adoption of a small scale of rebate, as la'st year; brigades not having drawn in benefit 60 per cent, of total contributions, receive 25 per cent, rebate; over 50 per cent., 10 per centrebate; 75 per cent, no rebate. Election of officers resulted: President. Supt. Bellringer (New Plymouth); vicepresidents, Captain Rolston (Inglewood) and Lieut. Mulvihill (Kumara); treasurer, Secretary Scantlebury > (Reefton); secretary, T. J. Wattß,(Newmarket).
