ATTEMPTED MURDER.
MR. ROTHSCHILD FIRED AT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, March I. As Mr. Leopold Rothschild was entering his motor-car at his offices in St. Swithin's lane, a man fired three shots at him. Mr. Rothschild was not hit, but a policeman was wounded and the glass on .the motor-car shattered. ASSAILANT SHOOTS DETECTIVE. Received 5, 10.25 p.m. London, March 5. 'Mr. Rothschild had a remarkably narrow escape, two shots being fired point blank at the car. Detective Berg grappled with the assailanlj, who fired two more shots, shooting Berg in' the ■thront. When arrested he gave the name of William Tebbitt, a Jew unknown to Mr. Rothschild. TEBBITT AN AUSTRALIAN. Received 5, 11.50 p.m. London, March 5. Tebbitt followed the occupation of a leather merchant's agent for ten years. He was an Australian, and arrived from Melbourne in March last. His wife is still in Australia.
