AUSTRALIAN LABOR TROUBLES
COLLIERY STRIKE SETTLED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Newcastle, March 5. The Colliery Conciliation Board has effected a settlement in the Shortland colliery strike, which has been in existence, a year,'by fixing the rates of shooting and filling. The men and the proprietors had several conference, but were unable to agree. The men will now resume work. STATE BRICK WORKS. ' FOUL PLAY ALLEGED. I- i i " ~"' Sydney, March 5. In the Assembly, Mr. Henley, referring to Mr. Griffith's statement that there had been foul play in connection with the Government brick works, demanded a public enquiry in the interests of himself and the men who were dismissed from the works. THE MOUNT LYELL TROUBLE. Hobart, March 5. A number of the Mount Lyell Company's employees declined to work last Thursday, owing to the fatal accident on Wednesday. When they reported themselves on Monday they were told they would have to sign on as new employees, and await notification when they were required. Several stated their intention to leave the district.
