A FISHERMAN DROWNED. By Telegraph—Presi Association. Invercargill, Monday., A man named Newman, thirty years of age, single, was drowned at Itiverton beach on Sunday afternoon while netting for flounders. The holders of the shore end of the net let go, and Newman became entangled in it. Owing to the breakers and the weight of his clothing he was unable to free himself. A gallant to rescue him was made by a young man named Sharburd, who only regained the shore with difficulty. FALL FROM A TRAIN. Christchureh, Last Night. A man named William Gifford, a passenger by the first express from the south to-night, fell off the platform of a carriage between Christchureh and Ly'ttelton. He managed to keep hold of the railing, but was dragged along a considerable distance, and received internal injuries. He was taken to the hospital.
