In the Assembly Mr. Eden said he was prepared to accept an amendment to the State Coalmins Bill restricting the sale to State services. The reason the Government had for starting the mine was the exorbitant prices charged bj private owners. He quoted the success of State mines in other countries, induding New Zealand. He estimated the cost of sinking the shaft at £98,200, and estimated the profit at £23,500 a year. He felt sure that if the British Government owned a few mines the present trouble would ba ended in an hour. The debate was adjourned. STATE BRICK WORKS. Sydney, March 2. In the Assembly Mr. Griffith accused Mr. Hanlcy, an Opposition member, of trying to bribe employees at the State brick works to allow the fires die down and thus spoil a thousand bricks.
