At the trial of Count Woolf Metternich and Buics, a Roumanian, who are charged with card-sharping, the latter asserted that rouge et noir was a game of skill, and offered a demonstration. The Judge accepted, and acted as banker. The game was played in open court, and had the contest been genuine the Judge would have lost 1400 marks (£7O). MT. LYELL MINE. Melbourne, March 1. The returns from the Mount Lyell mine from January 25 to February 21, show that 17,405 tons of ore were treated, and produced 429 tons of blister copper, containing 423 tons of copper, 31,154 ounces of silver, and 5t2 ounces of gold. INCREASED STATE REVENUES. v Sydney, March 1. The revenue of New South Walea for the eight months of the financial year shows an increase of £381,180. There is a corresponding increase in Victoria and Westralia, due chiefly to Commonwealth returns.
