N.S.W. RAILWAYS
GOVERNMENT AND COMMISSIONERS By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 1. Strained relations are existing between the Government and the Railway Commissioners on several matters of policy. The Government instructed the Commissioners to observe an eight hours' day in all grades of the service. This has not been complied with. Ther£ is also a disagreement on Ihe question of imported or locally manufactured engines, the Government desiring the latter and Mr. Johnson favoring importation. The appointment of the recent Royal Commission to enquire into the congestion of the Darling Island railway yards is regarded in Labor circles as a censure of Mr. Johnson's management. The Premier admits that there are certain disagreements, but denies that s a crisis is at hand.
