Mr. Scaddon, the Premier, declares that the Government intends to bring about a reduction in the prien of the people's food. It is already making a move to distribute fifteen tons of fish weekly at a reduction of 50 per cent, on the present price, and is also considering State brick-works and the erection of people's homes. EX-MINISTER REJOIXS CABINET. Received 29, 10.30 p.m. Sydney, February 29. Mr. Carmichael, who some months ago for private reasons resigned the portfolio he held in the State Cabinet, has rejoined as Minister for Instruction. BILL HAS NARROW SHAVE. Received 29, 12.45 a.m. Sydney, February 29. The Arbitration Bill had a narrow shave in the Legislative Council, the second reading being carried on the casting vote of the Speaker.
