DISTRICT NEWS.
OMATA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs E. 0. Meredith (chairman), Bamsbottom, E. George and H. Kendall. Mr. Meyenberg reported to the committee that 37 adults and 88 children had notified they would attend the picnic if held at Ngaere. (It is not unlikely more will be added to the number). It was resolved that the picnic be held at Ngaere on March 8. It was also resolred that the ladies of the district be invited to a meeting to be held at the schoolroom on Wednesday evening, 28th inst., at 7.30, for the purpose of arranging for the catering at the picnic. It was decided to place the sum of £4 in the hands of the ■ ladies for that purpose. Mr. Meyenberg was unanimously appointed secretary and treasurer to the picnic committee. It is gratifying to find that the parents and friends of the children have contributed most liberally towards the expenses of the picnic, with the result that every child on the school roll will have his or her day's enjoyment absolutely free.
