THE NAPIER DESTRUCTOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Thursday. The tender of Messrs. Hughes and Sterling, Ltndon (Niven and Co., representatives), at £3,699, has been accepted for the erection of a destructor. LEAVING WITHOUT NOTICE. Wellington, Thursday. An interesting point in reference to employment, under the awards, was determined in the Magistrate's Court this morning. A freezing works employee left on Thursday without notice and his wages earned to that day were stopped. The Inspector of Awards proceeded against the Freezing Company for & breach of the award a»d a £lO penalty. Mr. Barton, S.M., held that no breach of the award was committed. , TERRITORIALS FINED. Feilding, Thursday. Before Mr. A. D. Thom«»n, S.M., today, four lads were proceeded against for not attending military parades. Lee (a jockey) was represented by counsel, who pleaded that the parades interfered with his profession. George Hight claimed that he had a weak back, and Fred Noble and George Oliver Goldsmith pleaded guilty. All of these were fined 20s, with 7s coste each. Fred Hewitt, who had made a start at drill, was fined 10s and 7s costs. j UNLICENSED BARMAIDS. I Feilding, Thursday. | At the Magistrate's Court tonlay j Martin, licensee of the Awahuri Hotel, was proceedd against for employing unI licensed barmaids. He pleaded guilty to I a technical breach, and «aid his wife "was ill, and his barmaid had left. Two ladies were engaged, one of whom was a wjdow, the other was married. Both were about fifty years old. Both were in the bar, but only one was working. The magistrate inflicted a fine of 40s for the one who served and 30s for the other.
