NEW PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL

MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS Th« monthly meeting of the High School Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. N. K. MacDiarmid presiding. Other members present were Messrs. H. Eyre-Kenny, S. Percy-Smith, E. Dockrill, and D. Hutchen. The secretary for the Education Department intimated that Messrs. N. K. MacDiarmid and H. Eyre-Kenny had been re-appointed members of the board. The Education Board also advised that the following candidates had been granted scholarships, tenable for two years, at the High School:—National: Doris. A. Lawn and Ellen Warren. Senior Board's: Thomas Bertram Kelly, Myrtle. Rosalind Mackie, Bella Men, Gordon M. Salt, Annie Mace, Francis A. Bruce, and Edith M. Cook. Junior Board's: Helen L. White and lan W. R. Roy ; Mr. E. Dockrill was appointed representative on the Education Board Techniual Advisory Committee. The secretary of the Education Board notified that a committee of its members had been set up to consider the matters brought forward by the Technical Advisory Board with regard to the Opaku Reserve, and the Taranaki scholarships. The committee would report to the board at the meeting to be held oh the 27th February.

Th« Treasury forwarded the sum ■of £ 195 6s 2d, representing revenue derived from reserves and endowments for secondary education. The Borough Council notified that it had no desire that the pine tree* at the junction of Henry street and the Avenue road should be cut down.

Arising out of the Principal's report, the board decided to authorise a committee consisting of the chairman and Mr. Smith to spend up to £SO in improving the school playground. Miss Andrews applied for assistance from the board to help to finance the Old Girl's Magazine.-r-Members decided that they had no power to make a grant. Reporting on Mr. Pridham's claim for certain property belonging to him, the board's solicitors reported that the board could not legally make payment in respect to some of the demands.—As the result of some discussion the hoard decided to allow Mr. Pridham £6, and further to allow him to remove the coachhouse.
