EMPIRE THEATRE,
[ The fine selection of pictures shown at this popular house on Saturday and again last evening will be on view to- ; night for the last time. The programme is exceptionally strong, and we can confidently recommend every picture lover an interesting and healthy evening's amusement at the Empire to-night. Tomorrow night will mark the greatest event in the history of motion pictures in New Plymouth., when the management will screen the most popular of all sporting pictures, "The Double Event." The novel of the "Double Event" was | written by Nat Gould, one of the most j prolific and popular of sporting novelists. | The writer, from long experience of the Australian turf, was able to create an atmosphere of our local racing conditions which vividly portrayed all manner and conditions of life in this country. In publication the novel ran through more editions than any similar work of modern times. Its success in picture form has been positively assured by the amount of local surroundings introduced, the performance by a strong dramatic company, and the care and attention exercised in the mounting. Add to this the services of a lecturer of the ability of Mr. Alf. Boothman, who graphically relates each incident as the pictures are thrown on the screen, and local patrons can imagine the treat that the Empire Theatre management has arranged for the New Plymouth public. In contradiction of a rumor circulated, the management clearly state that there will be no alterations in the price of admission even for this wonderful attraction.
