Received 19, 7 p.m. Sydney, February 19. The weather was dull and cloudy. The early showers that fell did not seriously affect the wickat. The attendance was 4200.

Gregory and Bardsley resumed to the bowling of Barnes and Foster. The century went up after 91 minutes' play. Bardsley was unable to sight Foster, and, after missing several, he was bowled by one breaking in from the leg. With McArtney in, Douglas relieved Barnes. The rate of scoring improved slightly. Gregory was cheered on reaching 60 by beautifully cutting Douglas. He had been at the wicket 146 minutes. The next ball he glanced to leg for four, passing Trumper's score. Woolley bowled in place of Foster, whose thirteen overs to-day yielded only thirteen runs. Just before luncheon Vine tried but was unable to shift the batsmen.

After adjournment Hearne and Douglas attacked. The latter bowled MacArtney with his third ball, which was short pitched. The partnership yielded 82.

Barbour joined Gregory. Two hundred was registered for 185 minutes. Hobbs took the ball from Hearne and bowled a medium past. The third ball Barbour snicked to Woolley at, third slip, and the latter effected a good catch.

With Kelleway as hia partner Gregory took the grand total past England's first innings, snicking Hobbs dangerousl' through the slips to the boundary. Hobbwas again successful, in his third over bowling Kelleway by a good length ball. Hobbs' average was then two for six. Gregory was longly cheered on bringing up 100 for -221 minutes. The next ball of Hobbs found another victim, Collins being stumped by Strudwick off Hobbs, whose tally was three for 12.

Hazlitt did not stay long, tipping Vine to Woolley in the slips. After passing the century Gregory opened out and scored with great freedom. Emery also hit out. Three hundred appeared for 265 minutes' play. Vine and Woolley were costly bowlers. At 132 Gregory gave his first chance to Foster at second slip off Douglas. It was, however, a hard one, and was dropped. Barnes went off, having strained his knee.

Gregory was soon afterwards missed. At 41 Emery lifted Rhodes straight to Hearne at deep field, but the latter dropped it. The next two balls he hit straight to the boundary. His 50 went up for 63 minutes. The 100 for the partnership was registered in the same time. A few balls later Emery again scooped Rhodes up and sent deep on to Gunn, who missed an easy catch. 403 for 134 minutes.

In Foster's next over Emerv's luck de« serted him, Foster clipping his leg bail He had batted »8 minutes for 65, hitting eleven fours. The partnership produced 144.

Scott was caught and bowled by Hobbs after scoring 1. McKew was absent owing to the death of his sister.

Gregory knocked up eighteen fours. A collection was taken up on the ground in recognition of his big «core, and produced £23.

Remarkable cricket records have been put up this season by local players W Gibson (United Cricket Club), in the senior competition, has runs to his credit aggregating 1387, his average being 80.08, including scores of 227 (not out), 224 (not 0l ,t), 131 (not out), and 157 iJ! M° Ut . • c, L \ McMa b™ (ex-member of the North Sydney Cricket Club and exAuckland rep. captain), of the Gisborme Wanderers, has a total of 491 runs and has been only once bowled. His score includes three centuries.

AT CHIUSTCHURCH.

Christchurch, February 17. Grade cricket was continued in fine weather to-day. St. Albans were practically in a hope-

less position against Riccarton. The scores one the first day were:-r-St. Albans, 158; Riccarton, 182 for one wicket. On resuming to-day, Riccarton started with Caygill (76 not out) and A. Norman (4), and finished with a total of •290.

West Christchurch were against a stiff proposition when they resumed against Linwood. On the first day the latter club had put on 378, to which West Christchurch had replied with 21 for one wicket. To-day West Christchurch brought their total to 06.

The surprise of the day's play was the defeat of Sydenham (who scored 129) by East Christchurch. The latter, in their first innings, made 191, and, in their second, made 59 for eight wickets.

SHIELD DATES. The dates proposed by the Canterbury Association for the Plunket Shield match against Auckland are March 8, 9 and 11, or March 16, 18 and 19. '

WELLINGTON GAMES. Wellington, February 17. Another series of games was completed on Saturday. East A left their B eleven standing, and Victoria College secured a meritorious threi-point win over South. At Lower Hutt, Central easily defeated the local eleven, compiling the handsome total of 335 for five wickets, when they declared. Wilkinson carried his bat for 100, and other big scorers were Beechey 68, Blamires (retired) 38, Vaughton 38, Cooke (not out) 34.
