OBJECTIONS TO PROMOTIONS.
By Telegraph—Prew Aaso»ia.tio«, Dunedin, Last Night. A sitting of the Railway Appeal Board was held to-day to consider objections by J. JJrown, stalionmastcr at Burkes; P. Hartland, clerk, Greymouth; P. Bond, clerk, Christchurch; H. Green, stationmaster, Milburn; F. Graham, station-, master, Ross; E. Moir, clerk, Dunedin; and R. Buchanan, Timaru. against the promotion of Messrs. Wcllings and McGovern, clerks in the head office. The case for the appellants was that Welling* and McGovcrn had been promoted over them while they had been recommended for promotion. The case for the Department was that Wellings and McGovern had been doing special work for several years, and the Department considered their knowledge and experience of such value as to warrant promotion. Cases similar to these occurred every year. In Moir's case, it was contended that appellant had been doing work which Well lings and McGovern were doing, but this would not be admitted. Decision was reserved in all cases.
