NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS^

Two heats in the half-mile amateur swimming championship were sAvum tffday, resulting:—First heat: M. E. €hampion 1 (time 12min 22 2-ssec), R. Healy (Thorndon) 2 (time 13min 28 2-ssec.), F. J. Kernott (Ponsonby) 3 (time 14min. 18 3-osec.). The only competitors. Second heat: C. Wilson (Waitemata)\ 1 (time 12min. 34 l-ssec), F. Seymour (Hawke's Hay) 2 (time 12min. 48 4-ssec), C. H. IL Rich (Opawa) 3 (time 13min. 38 1-asee.) E. J. Dawson (Duuedin) and E. J. McQuillan (Waitemata) also competed, but dropped out in the early stages of the race. Protests were entered by two swimmers, who wanted to compete but who alleged that no official announcement was made of the alteration in the time at which the race was to be swum. There ia a likelihood of tho race having to be re-swum. •

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB'S CARNIVAL.

The New Plymouth Swimming Club was greeted by very unseasonable weather for its swimming carnival last evening, there being quite a cold snap about the atmosphere. This very much affected l the attendance, the fireside being a much more popular place. Despite this, the competitors mustered strongly, and some close contests resulted. During the evening Mr. W. Lints gave an exhibition of fancy diving. Results:— 50 Yards Maiden.—Haldane 1, K. Stohr 2. Also started: Dewar, Okey, Stoney and J. Stohr.

Williamson Memorial, ,50 yards; for boys under 20 years.— First ■heat:-GoM I, Sinclair 2. Becond heat: Francis 1, Kelly 2. Final: Goss I,' Kelly "2. Girls' Race, 50 yards.*-!). Hawke (scr)l IV V...Gilbert (2sec) and E. Johnson (scr) dead-beat, 2. 75 Yards Handicap.—Bullard (4sec) 1, C. Brown (scr) 2., 50 Yards Handicap.—First heat: Whittaker (Bsec) 1, Francis (6sec) ,2. Second heat: Hbwell (ssec) . 1,,.8r0wn (ecr) 2. Final: Whittaker 1, Francis 2. Howell finished'second, but was disqualified for breaking. Brown did not compete.
